Indications
**Treatment of all forms of epilepsy and seizures in infants, children, and adults, especially absence seizures (petit mal)
**Treatment of panic disorder
Mechanism of Action
Clonazepam enhances the activity of the neurotransmitter GABA in the brain, producing a calming effect that reduces seizures and anxiety
Common Side Effects
Drowsiness, Dizziness, Impaired coordination, Fatigue, Memory problems, Depression
Precautions
**May cause dependence and withdrawal symptoms with long-term use
**Avoid concurrent use with alcohol or other CNS depressants
**Do not discontinue abruptly; tapering under medical supervision is recommended
Contraindications
**Severe hepatic impairment
**Hypersensitivity to Clonazepam or any component of the formulation
**Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Use with caution; potential risks to the fetus and nursing infant should be weighed against the benefits
Misuse and Abuse
**Overdose or use in combination with other substances can lead to respiratory depression, coma, or death
**Non-medical use, such as for relaxation or recreational purposes, is considered misuse
